A young boy, mesmerized by the movie theatre in a small Italian town, cultivates a warm friendship with the projectionist who teaches him the trade. We watch the boy grow, fall in love and leave the town. He returns, as a successful film director, for the funeral of his beloved friend. Cascio and Noiret are truly a heartrending duo, complemented by Ennio Morricone's touching music.
