Lacombe, Lucien
(Lacombe Lucien)
a feature film by Louis Malle (Elevator to the Gallows, Zazie dans le Métro, Damage, Pretty Baby, Atlantic City)
with Pierre Blaise, Aurore Clément (Apocalypse Now Redux, Paris, Texas, Marie Antoinette, A Bigger Splash), Holger Löwenadler, Therese Giehse

World War II - Lucien Lacombe, a 17 year-old French country boy asks to join the Resistance Movement, but is refused. Almost unwittingly, he finds himself collaborating with the Gestapo: that is, until they are about to deport the young Jewish girl whom he loves. He kills the soldier sent to arrest her, and the two take flight. While crossing the Pyrenees, Lucien is captured and shot.

Malle's masterful direction provides a brilliant telling of a complex tale centered around guilt, innocence and the amorality of power.
