John and his lifelong friends are spending New Year’s Eve for the first time in his big family house in the Napa Valley. The house has been in John’s family for generations; it is full of childhood memories, of when all of them as children used to spend summers together, developing a bond that would only grow stronger and stronger with every holiday reunion.
Gary, John’s best friend is also there. They have not been in touch for a very long time, though, and John’s invite is so unexpected and unusual that it borders on the mysterious, accentuated by the fact that John refuses to give an explanation… Things get out of control, when John’s brother, Matt, forces him unexpectedly to reveal in public that he has only a few months left to live…
You don’t always get what you want. Sometimes you get better. The film addresses issues of passion, sex, loss and trust and how they all complicate and enrich friendships. It is the story of what our friendships mean to us, about the power they have to anchor us.
