Robert Junior Waters is a talented singer who’s just been accepted to Prestige, the equivalent to Juilliard. His family can’t afford the tuition, but Junior’s father is determined to make his son’s dream come true, if it takes working two jobs to do so. On the night of his graduation, during Junior’s solo, the unthinkable happens – Robert Waters Sr. dies of an embolism. Aside from the ensuing grief, it seems Junior’s hopes to attend Prestige are dashed – there is no way to pay for tuition to the prestigious Prestige! Enter Uncle Cedric who advises that Waters Sr. had insurance that will cover tuition. Junior is on his way to pursue his dreams….but of course that can’t be the end of the story…the insurance claim is denied while Junior attends his first week. What to do? Junior must convince Chancellor Davis that he is worthy of a scholarship. And the only way to do that is winning The Fall Music Festival that Pharrell Williams is guest judging. The conundrum is standing out from the rest of the crowd, and when Junior agrees to accompany his grandmother to church, the seed is planted – Gospel Music! But Chancellor Davis (who doesn’t believe people have an innate talent), and his protege, Mitch, won’t make it easy for Junior to win or stay at Prestige. However with the help of another student, Vicky, his supportive family, and gutsiness in the face of humiliation, Junior is determined to prove himself and realize his dreams.
