THE ISLE OF MEDEA - CALLAS AND PASOLINI

a documentary by Sergio Naitza

with Maria Callas, Pier Paolo Paolini, Piero Tosi, Gabriella Pescucci, Ninetto Davoli, Nadia Stancioff, Dacia Maraini, Giuseppe Gentile, Piera Degli Esposti, Fernando Franchi, Roberto Chiesi

The most controversial and provocative writer of his age and the most acclaimed soprano in the world: Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas. The film that made them meet was “Medea”, shot in 1969. Nearly 50 years later, the story of an impossible love is unveiled through the memories and anecdotes of the crew and their most beloved friends. An investigation on two sensitive and, at the same time, fragile souls who were able to create a profound, delicate, artistic and human special relationship.

On the 40th anniversary of the death of Maria Callas (September 16, 1977), with footage never seen before from Pier Paolo Pasolini’s film MEDEA, this film celebrates the genius and sensibility of two icons of the XX century.
