In 1944, during the occupation of Rome, Vittorio De Sica’s movie “La porta del Cielo” was shot. From that moment, a journey begins that comes down to us. A journey made of difficulties but also of hope. A journey that lasts decades, still carrying with it all the depth of the characters. The film, or at least the original negatives, made of flammable silver nitrate, disappeared, then a positive copy was found and from there the recovery of this film with its restoration started. Pure Silver tells the story of the production of the movie and the story of its restoration. From the words of his son Christian De Sica, we learn about the film’s family background and anecdotes. De Sica worked on the screenplay for the film, which he did not want to make, together with Cesare Zavattini, this was the film that opened the door to a wonderful phase of Italian cinema: Neorealism.
